0900 Hours  January 14, 2012

Post 9328 Trustee Richard Cerone mans the sign in table before the PTSD Presentation by representatives from the Maine Veterans' Services Office in Lewiston.

Attendance was not as great as hoped, but it's a start. The sparse turnout was certainly not the fault of organizer Post 9328 Adjutant Larry Newth. Larry was everywhere setting up posters, notices in local newspapers and talking it up.  Past post QM Don Sutherland also set up some posters. Thanks, Larry (Don and Dick!)

The information was plentiful and helpful.  Hopefully attendees will spread the word and more interest will be generated so that if the post has another presentation more people will come.

Past Post QM and Trustee Don Sutherland, Post Trustee Delmore Maxfield and Past Post Commander Brian Spaulding shoot the breeze prior to the presentation.  Del is looking over BNEWs newspaper clippings with photographs of the installation of the first post officers and officers of the post Ladies Auxiliary.

Post Commander Lou Bernier and crew did a great job of setting up for the presentation as did the Ladies Auxiliary in readying the kitchen, setting up the coffee and breakfast goodies.  Super donuts, Barb!  (-:

The dauntless post Ladies Auxiliary kitchen crew:

(L - R) Bev Martin; Barb Maxfield; and Linda Moynihan!

Upon arrival in the morning, attendees and presenters were welcomed by the aroma of fresh brewed coffee, home made donuts, and other breakfast pastries and, later, lunch at noon, prepared and donated by Ladies Auxiliary members.
Thumbs up, Ladies!              (-:

Here Maine Veterans' Services Lewiston office Reps Jerry and Jasmine are in a one-on-one discussion prior to the presentation. The Lewiston office is located at:

35 Westminster St, Lewiston, ME 04240

"Walk-ins" are welcome or call to discuss a possible appointment. A home visit can be arranged, too.  Once a month or so Reps are at the Maine Vets Home in So. Paris and the Bridgton Community Center. Call for times and reduce your driving distance and time!

                  Tel:   207-783-5306    Fax: 207-783-5307      Email: Lewiston.MaineBVS@maine.gov

Maine Veterans' Service Officer Rep Jasmine provided background information about PTSD, not only as it most often is thought to be military service related, but also domestic abuse, police service and other civilian circumstances as well. Jasmine has many years of consulting experience, mostly in civilian related concerns whereas her colleague, Jerry, a vet himself, has many years dealing with veterans' issues.

This was an outstanding presentation!  Certainly everyone in attendance benefited in some way.  Veterans and their family are encouraged to attend one of these presentations wherever conducted.  It is not necessary to be personally concerned about PTSD and other stress disorder to attend.  YOU may be better equipped to help other veterans (or others) by being informed.

Past Post Quartermaster Don Sutherland listens intently to Maine Veterans' Service Officer Jerry Smith.  In addition to being available for a PTSD presentation, Jerry, and other of his  Lewiston office fellow representatives also are veritable fonts of knowledge about how to fill out all manner of forms providing vets assistance.  The list of these forms is too long to post here, however, they range from VA forms to numerous other forms to obtain various assistance for veterans. Also, they can help with requests in obtaining DD-214 separation from military service records. Give the office a call and the reps there will help you get the forms you need if you don't have them and they will help you fill them out!   (-:  Also, be aware that there are other Maine Veteran's Service offices in Maine.

Maine Veterans' Services Offices website is at:    http://www.maine.gov/dvem/bvs/offices.htm
The Bureau's hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Our staff is able to provide information and assistance with benefits available through state, federal and local municipalities.
